[lateinisch »augusteische Geschichte«], eigentlich Scriptores historiae Augụstae, spätere Bezeichnung (erstmals bei I. Casaubon) für eine antike Sammlung von 30 Biographien römischer Herrscher und Thronanwärter von 117 bis 285 (Lücke 244-253); Verfasser, Abfassungszeit und Zuverlässigkeit sind umstritten. Das Werk ist weitgehend die einzige Quelle für den behandelten Zeitraum und deshalb Gegenstand intensiver Forschung.
 
Ausgaben: Scriptores historiae Augustae, herausgegeben von E. Hohl, 2 Bände (Neuausgabe 1965); Historia Augusta. Römische Herrschergestalten, übersetzt von demselben, 2 Bände (1976-85).
